Lynk and Omnispace Merge to Form Elveo Mobile for Advanced D2D Satellite Communications

Lynk Global and Omnispace have finalized their merger to create Elveo Mobile, leveraging 60 megahertz of S-band spectrum to expand direct-to-device satellite communications. The newly formed entity aims to compete in the growing space-based cellular market by supporting bandwidth-heavy data applications.

Lynk and Omnispace Merge to Form Elveo Mobile for Advanced D2D Satellite Communications

In a significant consolidation within the commercial space sector, satellite communications providers Lynk Global and Omnispace have officially completed their merger, rebranding the combined entity as Elveo Mobile. Announced previously with terms undisclosed, the transaction successfully cleared all necessary United States and foreign regulatory approvals, paving the way for an integrated approach to direct-to-device (D2D) satellite services. By combining assets, the newly formed company seeks to transition beyond basic messaging and emergency alerts into high-bandwidth data connectivity.

Combining Spectrum and Platform Assets

The strategic union brings together Omnispace’s valuable holding of 60 megahertz of globally coordinated S-band spectrum with Lynk’s operational D2D platform. Previously, Lynk relied primarily on cellular frequencies partnered with mobile network operators (MNOs) to deploy intermittent messaging services via a small constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites across island nations. Meanwhile, Omnispace had envisioned a massive constellation of over 600 satellites using its S-band spectrum, though those deployment plans stalled following regulatory and interference concerns related to competing constellations like SpaceX's Starlink Mobile.

Expanding Capabilities and Overcoming Regulatory Hurdles

With dedicated satellite spectrum now integrated into its architecture, Elveo Mobile is positioned to support more demanding data-heavy applications. This strategic shift mirrors broader industry trends where competitors are heavily investing in proprietary spectrum to bypass the bandwidth limitations of terrestrial cellular bands. Competitors such as AST SpaceMobile and SpaceX are rapidly scaling their own networks to deliver voice, video, and 5G-like speeds from space. Elveo's leadership, including CEO Ramu Potarazu, has indicated that the company already maintains contractual agreements with more than 50 MNOs across over 60 countries.

Future Roadmap and Multi-Orbit Integration

Looking ahead, Elveo plans to unveil major strategic partnerships, new investment rounds, and comprehensive manufacturing and launch schedules for its next-generation architecture. Luxembourg-based multi-orbit operator SES, a major early investor in both founding companies, remains a primary shareholder. Elveo intends to utilize SES's geostationary (GSO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites to establish continuous, global D2D coverage by 2027. Technical validation is currently underway, with SES pathfinder satellites testing in-orbit relay capabilities designed to be fully compatible with the Elveo network.
