Moog Expands METEORITE Satellite Bus Capacity for High-Maneuverability Space Missions

Moog Inc. has officially announced a significant capability upgrade to its METEORITE (ESPA) class satellite bus, introducing a new High Delta-V configuration designed specifically for high-maneuverability missions. As space domain awareness and tactical responsiveness become increasingly vital for modern national security architectures, the demand for resilient and highly agile spacecraft has surged. By capitalizing on the flight-proven baseline model and incorporating radiation-tolerant components, Moog aims to deliver greater flexibility, increased thrust, and expanded propellant mass without necessitating prolonged development and qualification cycles.

Enhanced Propulsion for High-Energy Orbital Transfers

The newly unveiled High Delta-V METEORITE configuration is engineered to excel in propulsion-intensive scenarios. This includes high-energy orbit transfers, large orbital plane changes, and frequent station-keeping maneuvers. In contemporary military and strategic space operations, satellite mobility and velocity are paramount. These features directly support tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications, allowing space-based assets to dynamically respond to threats, evade potential anti-satellite (ASAT) measures, or reposition to cover critical areas of interest.

Production Scalability and Facility Expansions

To support the manufacturing demands of the upgraded METEORITE platform, Moog is actively expanding its propulsion production capabilities. The high delta-V propulsion systems are developed at the company's specialized facility in Niagara Falls, New York. To accommodate the rising volume of thruster orders, Moog is expanding its dedicated clean-room space by more than 80 percent. This industrial scaling is designed to accelerate the assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) phases of production, ultimately boosting delivery capacities. Furthermore, the complete satellite bus integration takes place at Moog's greater Denver-area facility, which possesses the infrastructure required to process dozens of spacecraft annually.

Meeting the Needs of National Security Space Customers

Bob McArthur, General Manager of Moog Space Vehicles, emphasized that modern defense and commercial customers require platforms capable of longer-range movement, faster response times, and heavier payload capacities. Several iterations of the METEORITE bus are already operating in orbit, actively supporting national security space missions. Built upon decades of flight heritage and TRL-9 components, these buses leverage proven reliability while incorporating cutting-edge propulsion enhancements. As geopolitical competition extends further into the orbital domain, modular and scalable spacecraft solutions like the upgraded METEORITE bus remain critical to maintaining strategic advantage and resilient space architectures.
