Space Angel Secures $1.75 Million WA Grant to Advance Spaceport Plans

Australian space infrastructure company Space Angel has been selected by the Western Australian Government to receive a $1.75 million Spaceport Establishment Support Grant. Announced by Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson, the funding marks a major step forward in the company's efforts to establish a commercially viable, safe, and globally competitive spaceport in Western Australia.

Advancing Strategic Space Infrastructure

The grant will directly fund the next stage of detailed work required to progress the Western Australian spaceport proposal. Ram Kuppusamy, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Space Angel, noted that the funding serves as a strong vote of confidence in the company's vision. The initiative will allow Space Angel to conduct critical site assessments and formulate a rigorous business case necessary for infrastructure of this magnitude, catering to commercial, civil, and defense space missions across the Indo-Pacific region.

Boosting Regional Capability and Global Competitiveness

As part of the Western Australian Government's $2 million Made in WA initiative, the grant was awarded through a competitive process. The state government is simultaneously running a separate feasibility study to identify other potential launch sites across Western Australia. Minister Stephen Dawson emphasized that establishing a local spaceport will attract foreign investment, generate high-skilled engineering jobs, and integrate local businesses into the rapidly expanding global space economy.

Leveraging Western Australia's Industrial Strength

With the global space launch services market already surpassing $15 billion and projecting an annual growth rate of approximately 15 percent, Western Australia is positioning itself as a key space hub. The region's deep-rooted expertise in resources, complex logistics, heavy engineering, and major infrastructure provides a distinct advantage. Space Angel's Australis Spaceports program aims to harness these local strengths to build comprehensive domestic capabilities spanning launch, re-entry, range, and testing.
