Turkish defense manufacturer FNSS has officially unveiled its latest innovation in autonomous military hardware: the Multi-Purpose Modular Unmanned Amphibious Vehicle, known as the İ-ZAHA U-MAV. Introduced during the TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan 2026 event, this cutting-edge platform represents a major leap forward in amphibious warfare technology. By shifting the initial, high-risk breach phase of marine landings away from human personnel, the system aims to redefine tactical doctrines for modern naval infantry forces globally.

Tactical Design and Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T)

The four-wheeled İ-ZAHA vehicle is specifically engineered to operate seamlessly as part of a manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) architecture. It works in direct coordination with the Marine Assault Vehicles (MAV) currently utilized by the Turkish Naval Forces Command. Weighing approximately eight tons, the vehicle bridges the crucial gap between naval insertion and land-based maneuver operations, ensuring that human troops are kept out of immediate harm's way during the most dangerous initial wave of an amphibious assault.

Technical Specifications and Versatile Payload Modules

Designed for high mobility across diverse terrains and maritime environments, the İ-ZAHA boasts a maximum naval speed of 7 knots and can reach up to 70 km/h (42.5 mph) on land. One of its standout operational advantages is the high degree of modularity embedded into its architecture. The common base platform allows operators to swap different mission payload modules in roughly 40 minutes directly in the field. Depending on the mission profile, the platform can be equipped with:

  • Fire support weapon stations featuring machine guns
  • Specialized mine clearance and breaching equipment
  • Advanced electronic warfare (EW) platforms
  • Counter-drone (C-UAS) systems for localized air defense

Advanced Autonomy and Navigation Systems

To ensure high survivability and operational effectiveness in contested electromagnetic environments, the U-MAV integrates robust navigation and processing technologies. It relies on a combined GNSS/INS navigation system paired with an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) module. Furthermore, the platform incorporates sophisticated artificial intelligence image processing capabilities, enabling autonomous threat detection, target acquisition, and environment mapping without constant human intervention.

Strategic Significance for the Turkish Defense Sector

Developed entirely under the expertise of the prominent Turkish defense firm FNSS—wholly owned by Nurol Holding—the İ-ZAHA underscores Turkey's growing dominance in unmanned and autonomous systems. FNSS CEO Selim Baybaş emphasized that the vehicle successfully consolidates the company's extensive engineering prowess, the proven field performance of the MAV, and forward-looking research and development investments.
